Frequently Asked Questions
How long do Hypnotherapy sessions last?
Standard hypnotherapy sessions last 60 minutes. The Initial Consultation is often a little longer (allow up to 90 minutes) to ensure we have plenty of time to discuss your goals.
Online vs In-person sessions?
I offer both in-person sessions at my practices in Corsham or Bath and online sessions via Google Meet. All are equally effective, allowing you to choose the environment that suits you best.
How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some clients begin to experience positive changes within 4 to 6 sessions, most clients require around 10-12 sessions, some may need more, but this will be discussed with you at your Initial Consultation as every client's journey is unique.
Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is a safe and natural process. You remain in control at all times, just nicely relaxed. It is a collaborative experience focused on your well-being and positive mental health and is a replication of a natural mind state that everyone enters many times every day.
When should I start a Hypnobirthing Course?
The usual time to start is between 20-30 weeks pregnant, so you have plenty of time to learn and practice techniques. However, it really depends on you. If you are feeling anxious and worried about giving birth, then do the course sooner, so you can benefit from feeling calmer and more confident. If you're relatively relaxed about birth, then you could leave it til later in your pregnancy.
Does Hypnobirthing mean I will have a pain-free labour & birth?
As every person is unique I would never guarantee a pain-free experience, but what I would say is Hypnobirthing creates an experience that means sensations are more manageable, whether they are mild or intense. Research also shows that women who practised Hypnobirthing had significantly lower levels of pain compared to those who did not.
Does my partner/husband have to attend the course?
Yes, if possible. Birthing companions are a very important part of your Hypnobirthing journey and they will get lots out of attending the course. They become better able to support to you in labour. You can also do the course with a different family member, a friend or a Doula, as you prefer.
Will I be 'out of it' with Hypnobirthing?
No, absolutely not. With Hypnobirthing (in fact, all hypnosis), you are in control and fully aware of what is going on around you but you simply choose to ‘tune out’ of any distractions, feeling deeply relaxed so your body can do what it knows to do.
